Japan Karatedo Federation Wado Kai

The “Dai Nippon Karate Shinko Club",an original body of Wado-Kai, was founded by Hironori Otsuka.

It was later established as "Dai Nippon Karatedo Shinbukai”.

Around the year 1940, the karate-ka following Otsuka’s vision participated in "Celebration for 2600B.C. and 44th Butoku Festival" under the name "Wado-Ryu Karate Jutsu". The name "Wado-Ryu" was established.

In the mid 1950’s Otsuka’s karate-ka participated in a demonstration (embu-kai) in commemoration of 20th anniversary of Wado-Ryu and to celebrate the foundation of "Zen Nippon Karatedo Renmei" at Hibiya Public Hall.

On June5, 1967, the name of Zen Nippon Karatedo Renmei was changed to Wado – Kai. (reference history from the JKF-Wado-Kai web page.)

The “JKF” in JKF Wado–Kai refers to the Japan Karatedo Federation, which is recognized by the World Karatedo Federation as the governing body for karate in Japan.

JKF Wado-Kai Technical Department manages testing to obtain various qualifications, sets standards and implements planned seminars so that practitioners will meet these technical standards.

JKF Wado-Kai also has a national championship tournament every year. This tournament is a major karate event in Japan.

Every two years JKF Wado-Kai has a World Wado-Kai Championships.
